We live in a world that is much different than it was even 20 years ago. Student safety has always been a concern but its' importance has been magnified recently for myriad reasons. Schools have made many changes to provide safe environments. Locked entrances, video cameras, emergency drills, and several other steps have been taken to ensure that our school environments are safe.
Research that has been done in response to recent issues of school violence around the country indicate that in many instances, students had some awareness of the situation in advance but didn't know how to intervene. The State of Michigan has created a new program called OK2Say. This is a confidential reporting system that can be used by students or adults to report problematic behavior.
The students of Lawton Middle and Lawton High School are being exposed to this resource and encouraged to download the free app to their phones. There is also a web-based method of reporting. I encourage everyone to review this resource and use it to report any behavior that could jeopardize the safety of any individual or group.
